Koper, today a bustling port town surrounded by industrial suburbs, still deserves a visit for its rich history and stunning architecture. Once the regional capital under the Republic of Venice during the 15th and 16th centuries, Koper’s Old Town reflects that glorious past. The heart of the town is Titov trg, the central square, where some of the most important buildings are found. The Cathedral, open daily from 7am to noon and 3pm to 7pm, features a beautiful Venetian Gothic façade and a bell tower dating back to 1664. Opposite the Cathedral stands the impressive Praetor’s Palace, the former seat of the Venetian Grand Council, showcasing a blend of Gothic and Renaissance styles. From the west side of Titov trg, the narrow cobbled Kidriceva ulica leads down to the seafront, offering a pleasant stroll and a chance to soak in the maritime atmosphere.
